ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE THEORY GROUP

I'm a Theoretical Chemist by training. I apply laws of quantum chemistry to study chemical properties of molecules. For that purpose, I develop new theories and write computer programs for their mathematical modeling.
I also like to teach chemistry to students. I found teaching a very good way to share one’s knowledge with others, acquiring new understanding in the process.

My research focuses on elucidating the mechanism of Low-energy electron-induced radiation damage to genetic material. I have completed MSc in Chemistry from NIT Calicut. We recently showed the role of dipole-bound anionic states in causing single-strand breaks in gas-phase DNA model systems. I currently work on describing the role of the cellular medium on electron attachment to DNA.

I am a chemist by heart and coder by passion. I am working on reduced-cost method developments in both relativistic and non-relativistic domains. I completed my Masters in Chemistry from Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (Autonomous), Narendrapur. I have also done a project before in the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata. I am a foodie and I write stories and poems at leisure.

I am pursuing my PhD degree at Department of Chemistry, IIT Bombay (2020). I have done my Bachelors from Midnapore College (Autonomous) in 2018 and M.Sc from Banaras Hindu University in 2020. I am working in the field of non-relativistic excited state property calculation. I am applying various Machine Learning models to predict these excited state properties. I love to code. I mostly code in Python and Fortran. In the leisure time I am fond of singing, dancing, cooking and watching movies.

Sudipta Chakraborty
PhD
Currently, I am working on relativistic quantum chemistry. I completed my M.Sc. from University of Calcutta (Rajabazar Science College) with a physical chemistry specialization. Previously I have done a couple of projects in IISER-Kolkata and S.N.Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences in the field of high-pressure spectroscopy of spherically confined atomic systems, computational biophysics, QM/MM, and excited state dynamics. I enjoy writing code and am comfortable with Fortran and Python. In my free time, I like to sketch and play table tennis.
